On April 13th, 2011, Chevron Energy Solutions L.P. (San Francisco, California, U.S.), Oceanic Time Warner Cable (Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.) and Tioga Energy Inc. (San Mateo, California, U.S.) unveiled a 856 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) parking canopy project at Oceanic’s Mililani Tech Park. The plant is the largest PV parking canopy project in Hawaii.
“We are proud of our collaboration with Chevron Energy Solutions and Tioga Energy to help us incorporate sustainability in our business,” said Oceanic Vice President of Operations Norman Santos.
“This project helps to provide budget predictability for our energy costs and the opportunity to use renewable power.”
Oceanic to purchase power through 20-year PPA
Chevron Energy designed, engineered and constructed the PV plant, which includes PV modules on two buildings and parking canopies. Tioga Energy will own and operate the project, for which it provided financing, and has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to sell Oceanic the electricity the plant will generate.
The rooftop PV installation on Oceanic’s new annex building is expected to help the building reach LEED Gold certification.
Hawaii’s renewable portfolio standard requires that utilities in the state generate or purchase 40% of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030.
