The largest solar parking canopy in the state of Hawaii was recently completed.
Chevron Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, in partnership with Tioga Energy and Oceanic Time Warner Cable, have installed the solar system, which is 856 kilowatts at the cable company’s Mililani Tech Park.
“In offering affordable renewable energy options, Tioga Energy and Chevron Energy Solutions are helping organizations to alleviate budgetary stress while simultaneously meeting their sustainability goals,” Paul Derering, Tioga Energy’s chief executive officer, said in a press release. “We commend Oceanic Time Warner Cable for its commitment to sustainable business practices and anticipate a successful relationship for years to come.”
While Chevron constructed and designed the project, Tioga Energy financed the project, and will operate it for 20 years, as it is the length of the Power Purchase Agreement.
The carbon emission reduction for the setup is equal to planting 225 acres of trees.
Construction of the facility helps Hawaii keep up with the expectation that 70 percent of its power will come from clean energy by 2030, as is required by the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative.
