Project in Union County, NJ earns nods from PV America and Climate Change Business Journal
SAN FRANCISCO – February 12, 2013 – Tioga Energy®, a leading provider of renewable energy services to commercial, government and non-profit organizations, was recently recognized with two industry awards for its expertise in commercial-scale solar development and financing. Tioga’s solar energy project in Union County, NJ was selected as a Photovoltaic Project of Distinction at the PV America East conference and exhibition, organized by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA). Additionally, Tioga earned a silver medal from the Climate Change Business Journal as part of its 2012 Business Achievement Awards.
Comprising solar electric systems at 30 municipally owned facilities, the 3.34-MW Union County project is the result of a public-private partnership between Tioga Energy and the Union County Improvement Authority. Tioga Energy developed, financed and operates each system through a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA), and sells the electricity generated by the systems back to the county facilities at rates approximately 50 percent lower than those of the local utility.
The installations—which range in size from less than 10 kW to almost 500 kW—were constructed through a joint venture between Pro-Tech Energy Solutions and Huen Electric, Inc.
