Job Position: Solar Sales Engineer

Reports To: VP Project Management
Location: San Mateo, CA

Summary

We are looking for a technically-savvy solar sales engineer to work closely with our sales force and partners to design high quality photovoltaic (PV) systems that are efficient, cost effective and durable. Your primary mission will be:

  1. To ensure that all solar PV system designs created by you and/or Tioga’s installation partners provide the maximum lifetime present value possible for its given project site.
  2. To ensure that Tioga Energy stays abreast of the latest and most appropriate solar energy technologies.
  3. To support the sales team in closing new business.

You will need both to design optimized systems and craft an efficient and effective internal design, tooling and communication process to ensure responsive and accurate support to our sales team, project managers, financial decision makers and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Support the sales team in providing rapid, accurate and clear system specifications and proposals – coordinate with partner design teams on final technology and system specifications
  • Model and optimize site facilities’ design – based on parameters such as energy usage, load profiles, location, site layout, available technology options with partners, relative costs and performance, etc.
  • Collaborate design decisions with our finance team to ensure long-term project profitability and risk mitigation
  • Provide technical support to direct and partner teams throughout each project’s lifecycle, including bidding, final engineering design, permitting, construction and operations
  • Evaluate and select most appropriate technologies for field deployment

Specific Skills and Experience Desired:

  • Familiarity with solar design and construction practices
  • Understanding of utility tariff structures
  • Experience designing electrical, preferably solar, facilities; mechanical layout also a strong plus
  • Modeling expertise – financial and design -- using web-based and desktop tools (e.g. Excel, solar design and configuration tools)
  • Commercial solar design experience strongly preferred
  • Experience creating and reviewing mechanical and electrical design drawings
  • Microsoft Office applications, e.g. Excel & PowerPoint

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years system-level engineering design, preferably with significant project management interaction
  • A bachelor’s (or advanced) degree in engineering (electrical, civil, mechanical) or related technical discipline
  • Construction experience in an engineering and construction company is a strong plus
  • NABCEP certification preferred
  • California C46 license preferred
